About Keemun

Keemun is a type of black tea that originates from the Qimen County in the Qimen region of Anhui Province, China. It is one of the most well-known Chinese black teas and is appreciated for its distinct flavour profile, winey notes, and aromatic characteristics. Keemun tea has gained international recognition and is often used in traditional English Breakfast tea blends.

Keemun tea comes from the Qimen region of Anhui Province in China. The region's climate, altitude, and soil conditions contribute to the unique characteristics of the tea.

Keemun tea leaves are typically small and wiry, with a dark colour and a glossy appearance. The dry leaves may contain some golden tips, adding to the visual appeal.

The processing of Keemun involves withering, rolling, oxidation, and drying. The oxidation level is moderate, resulting in a tea that falls between green tea and fully oxidized black tea. The careful processing contributes to the tea's complexity and well-defined flavours.

Keemun tea is known for its rich, full-bodied flavour with a characteristic winey and fruity sweetness. It often exhibits notes of cocoa, pine, and floral undertones. The taste is smooth and mellow, making it suitable for both traditional and contemporary tea drinkers.

The aroma of Keemun tea is a key feature, characterized by a combination of floral, fruity, and sometimes smoky notes. The fragrance is often described as complex and inviting.

The brewed liquor of Keemun tea ranges from a bright reddish-brown to a deep, dark amber color, depending on factors such as the quality of the tea leaves and brewing parameters.

Keemun tea can be enjoyed on its own, and it is often included in various blends. It is known for being a versatile tea that pairs well with or without milk, depending on personal preferences.
